The tension is building, the competitors are in their final preparations, and the spectators are deeply invested… not the 2026 Winter Olympics, but the final of our housekeeping department’s bed making competition.
“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed” U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McRaven
Heats were held at each PSGS site in the final quarter of 2025, and the winner from each site will defend their location’s honour in a company-wide final to be held at our Basra head office in April. Bed making skills were judged on speed, technique, and final presentation. Our housekeeping team make approximately 4,000 beds across 16 sites each day, so speed is key; but returning to a room with a neatly made bed at the end of a day at work is a luxury our clients deserve, so speed needs to be balanced against the appearance of the finished bed. When they have the time, members of the housekeeping team enjoy introducing a note of whimsy with towel animals; but the bed making competition will be serious business.
Quality Assurance Manager Keith Weaving is pleased that the department held such an innovative event, “both the contestants and the observers watching enjoyed the format and in particular their participation in showing off their skill set. What was witnessed and evident throughout the competition was the enjoyment and pride of the competitors, which showcased and highlighted both their competitiveness & skills in the housekeeping service.”
We look forward to bringing you an update on the overall PSGS bed making champion; in the meantime you can sleep easy, knowing that our highly skilled team is taking care of the bed making.
